Dija among flowers (inspired by Maxim Vakhovskiy)
Oil & mix media (collage, print), 30" x 24"

I painted this as a celebration of the beauty within humans and within mother nature.

Painted on tissue paper, it has natural texture (which is difficult to see in the photo).

I grew and picked flowers that are relief printed and collaged into the background. The canvas was overlaid with 2 tissue paper for natural texture. I anchored the figure with a permanent marker, then painted her (with oils) until she sat harmoniously in her background, with vibrancy and warmth. The subject emerges with pleasant immediacy.

A look back at a portrait of someone very dear to me that I painted in 2023, the year I had the honour of being a contestant on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. An experience that really helped me develop artistically and stylistically 🙏🏼😊
